U-TUBE AND HARE'S APPARATUS

apparatus are monuted onthe same panel in order to demonstate different
methods of measuring the relative density of liquid.The Hare's apparatus
consists of two glass tubes, connectd at the upper ends with a Y-shaped
plastic pice with rubber tubing. When the lower ends of the two outside
limbs are immersed in beakers , one containing the refereence liquid, the
other the liquid of unknown density, by sucking on the rubber tube, the
two liquids rise to different levels, and the relative density may be
calculated from the difference in height. The U-tube is mounted on the
reverse face of the wooden panel, and allows for the direct measurement of
the reletive density of two immiscible liquids, or of two miscible liquids
separated by a third immiscible liquid (for example mercury). Panel height

apparatus comprises two open-end U-tube manometers, made up of flexible
tubing to be filled with mercury and connected to a closed reservoir
holding the gas under study. Raising or lowering the free end of the tuhbe

the volume of the gas. The two manometers are mounted on a wooden stand
